Do I Want to Register? Minimize

What benefits do I get as a Sask Alpine web site member?

  • You will be able to access and participate in Discussion Forums that would be restricted to only registered members. And why is that an advantage? The Discussion Forums provide a one-stop reference to conversations between other members on particular topics. No having to sort, organize, and find emails. No having to try and keep track of all the people's email addresses that should read your messages and replies. And you can choose the conversations that you want to keep track of (or not) with the Discussion Forum's notification feature - no more constant flurry of emails on a topic that you have no interest in.
  • You will be allowed to see content that is appropriate for the group you are associated with. For example, if you are a member of the Developmental Team, you will be able to view all the contact information for those team members. This information is unavailable and restricted for anyone not part of that group.
  • Your registered member account can be subscribed with groups to automatically receive broadcasted email information from Sask Alpine. For instance, if  you are a member of a Sask lpine club, your account could be associated with that group so that you would receive any general notifications sent to all SaskAlpine members (like upcoming meetings, training opportunities, and other general information). As another example, if you're account is associated with the Provincial Team group, you would receive notification emails that would be relevant to, and only available to, that group of members.
  • You can change your email addresses as you need to. No more sending updates in and waiting for them to take effect - they will be applied as soon as you update them!

So, come on - register with us by entering your information in the spots below to start to become involved! But, before you proceed with entering your information, you may want to read over the 'New Member Account Registration Information' displayed below to understand what you should consider when entering something in each of the fields below...

New Member Account Registration Information Minimize

Before you register, take a few minutes to review the information below. It will describe each of the fields you're about to deal with, and provide guidance when you put values into them.

  • User Name: This is an ID value that is used to know who you are when you try to login to this web site from this point forward. Every registered member must have a unique User Name for the web site. If you attempt to choose one that has already been used by someone else previously, you will be told to make up a different value. The User Name cannot be changed after you register. The User Name, together with your selected Password value (see below) ensures that we know who you are, and you have proved it was you with your secret password. Choose a User Name that you'll remember. People often use a combination of the first letter and their last name together (e.g. Barney Rubble might choose the User Name brubble). If you already have IDs that you use on other Internet web sites (e.g. your email account login ID, an eBay ID, or Internet banking ID), you might consider re-using that so that you have fewer IDs on the Internet to remember. Couple more things; case doesn't matter for the User Name (i.e. mixed, all upper, all lower), and usually you don't want to have spaces in the User Name or any unusual characters - you normally want to stick with the alphabet and numbers (like our example brubble).
  • First Name, Last Name: This is just to provide some meaningful account information for web site administration purposes.
  • Display Name: This is the name that will be shown when you do anything on the web site that would show who created it. For example, if you create a Discussion Forum conversation (known as a 'Thread' on the Discussion Forums), it would show your Display Name so others would know who had created that conversation message. Some people like to choose flashy, cryptic Display Names (Barney might choose Bam-Bam's Dad). But then it's hard to know who the person is that has messages on the Forums. For this web site, we recommend you choose a Display Name that others will be able to recognize as you. To continue our example, Barney would likely want to have Barney Rubble as his Display Name so that there would be no confusion or question as to who created a message 'Thread' or replied to a message within a 'Thread' in a Discussion Forum.
  • Email Address: This address is important. It will be used to communicate all activity associated with this web site. The first thing that is communicated is that you have asked to be registered, then later that you're registration request has been authorized and you can now login. Later, people will be able to send you messages via your registered email address. Also, you would be associated with specific groups on the web site, which would result in email 'newsletters' relevant to that group being sent to your email address. Choose and email address that you monitor frequently. And you should know that - after you login with your User Name and Password - you can access your personal account information and change it. This includes your email address. So if it should be changed for some reason, you can do this yourself and it will immediately take affect for any messages in the future!
  • Password: This ensures that there isn't an attempt to enter a User Name to impersonate someone. Your password is the key that unlocks the door into your account - and after logging in with the User Name and Password, all things done after that are presumed to be done by that person. So, choose a Password that is not easy for someone to guess. For example, never choose a Password of password (one of the first things someone will try)! This web site requires a Password of at least four characters in length. A strong password is one that combines letters, numbers, special characters (like asterisks, dashes, dollar signs, etc) and often mixed upper and lower case.

Well, now that you are armed with all of the above information, go ahead and register yourself. Don't be intimidated - take little steps within the web site and you'll find that you will travel great technical distances in no time!

Second step to finish up... Entering the registration information creates an email that will be sent to you to verify your email address before your account is active. Follow the instructions and you're on your way!

One more thing... If you also want to get 'special' access to parts of the web site (say, as a Sask Alpine member or Sask Alpine Executive member) then you will need to request it. Click on this website@saskalpine.com email address to request this.
