Alpine Skiing at the Saskatchewan Winter Games Minimize

Alpine skiing will return for the upcoming 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games hosted in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Although the athlete's village and the majority of the sports will be located in and around Moose Jaw, the closest alpine ski venue will be at Mission Ridge located near Fort Qu'Appelle - which is an hour and a half drive from Moose Jaw travelling East and then North.

What are the steps for an alpine ski athlete to prepare to be registered for the Games? Are there any other preparations needed right away?

First, everyone needs to determine what district (new name for zones) they're in before the qualifier at Table Mountain in January. This will be needed so that the district is taken into account after the qualifier race to sort which athletes filled which district quota spots.

Refer to the Saskatchewan Games Handbook (reference provided on the Sask Alpine Sask Winter Games web site page) for information on athlete eligibility and determining which district an athlete can be associated with. For district boundaries, refer to the Sask Sport web site district map (reference provided on the Sask Alpine Sask Winter Games web site page).

Second, each district that has athletes will need to determine their coach and manager.

These two pieces of information need to be collected and forwarded to the district contacts prior to the January qualifier race at Table Mountain. Deadline for forwarding this info is mid-December, 2009 to provide sufficient time to be organized. The district contact names and methods of contact are provided in the Alpine Ski technical package (once again, a reference is provided on the Sask Alpine Sask Winter Games web site page).

Third, refer to continuing updates that will be posted on the Sask Alpine Sask Winter Games web site page. This is your main source of information as the games dates approach.

For those that are going to participate as a coach, assistant coach, manager, or trainer with a district team, you MUST submit a Criminal Record Check prior to confirming that you will be involved in that role.

Information about the process and the application form can be found at http://www.saskgames.ca/assets/File/pdfs/Procedure%20to%20apply%20for%20a%20Criminal%20Records%20Check.pdf.
