 Race Fee Policy Minimize

Nancy Greene Races/Snow Stars Festivals will have $6 per racer per day forwarded to Alpine Saskatchewan.

To maintain consistency and reasonable race fee pricing, Sask Alpine has set a Sask Cup race fee maximum of $22.50 per racer per day for all in-province Sask Cup races - of which $10.50 per racer per day  is to be forwarded to Sask Alpine. This includes $2.50 per racer per day (as of December 31, 2009) for b-net safety fencing replacement fees plus $8.00 per racer for Sask Cup provincial race expenses.

The mountain races (such as the Giant Slalom Sask Alpine race) will be exempt from this restriction.

Alpine Saskatchewan Registration Process

Sask Alpine clubs must register their athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers with the Alpine Canada forms for the season (download it through this document link).  Please note that the information on these forms will be shared with Sask Ski (Sask Alpine's parent organization within Sask Sport) to register your members with them as well.

All registration forms and fees must be sent to Alpine Saskatchewan by December 1. Also please be sure to advise all those registered for National Cards that GS style helmets are required for all competitions and in training this coming winter.  Please ensure the forms are filled out completely including the member’s signature.  Incomplete forms will be returned.  If you do not have your racers National Card number from last year, the Sask Alpine office will have a list and will complete that for you.

Return the forms and fees to:

 Frequently Asked Questions Minimize

Q: Where do the athlete membership fees go?
A: The Entry Level, Recreational, and National member category fees are paid to Alpine Saskatchewan. A portion of the monies go to Alpine Canada to cover the insurance fees for each member. The remaining funds are used by Alpine Saskatchewan to offset costs for the associated program (i.e. Nancy Greene for Entry Level, and the race expenses for the Recreational and National).

Q: Where do the Coaches, Officials, and General Members fees go?
A: The fees for these members are paid to Saski. Saski then retains some of the fee for office expenses, and the remainder is forwarded to Alpine Saskatchewan to cover the Alpine Canada insurance fees for Alpine Saskatchewan itself. At the same time, the individuals will be registered with Alpine Canada (for insurance purposes).

Q: What benefit is there to registering General Members?
A: General Members are normally those people that are volunteering for races and would benefit from the Alpine Canada insurance. Although there's no Alpine Canada charge for these members, it should be kept in mind that they are counted for the SaskSport Member Assistance Program (MAP) grants (see the MAP Q and A below for more relevant details). Because the grant monies are forwarded to the clubs based on their membership, and these monies are at least $10 per member or more, the effective cost for the General Member types of membership is a wash - or may result in minor revenues to the club for these registrations. Regardless, it is also a benefit to have all involved individuals registered as members of Alpine Saskatchewan to demonstrate our effective numbers to SaskSport for the alpine ski sport.

Q: How does the Member Assistance Program (MAP) work - and what's the benefit?
A: SaskSport provides funding to Saski based on the number of clubs and the total membership count. Saski in turn forwards these funds to the clubs based on two things; the clubs' membership numbers and the receiving of the MAP grant reports from each club. The clubs can expect the MAP grant funding to be $10 per member or more. So the onus is on the clubs to submit the necessary application forms and follow-up reports annually to claim the MAP grant funding.

Q: How does the Alpine Canada 'Casual Member' factor into this?
A: Alpine Canada has a provision for individuals that rarely are involved in race events and - when they are - are usually in a low-risk situation (e.g. runner, food preparation, committee members, etc). It can also include individuals involved infrequently in Entry Level races (i.e. Nancy Greene Races and Festivals).
