2011 Canada Winter Games
The 2011 Canada Winter Games will feature alpine ski events for the able and para alpine disciplines. For Saskatchewan's alpine ski team, the quota will be 5 male and 5 female alpine athletes, and 2 male and 2 female para-alpine athletes.
The following two hyperlinks are important reference documents for the 2011 Alpine Ski Canada Winter Games information - both alpine and para-alpine:
Further to the above, the Alpine Saskatchewan High-Performance Committee has compiled and approved the following documents:
- Canada Winter Games Training and Selection. For those athletes interested in qualifying for the team, they are encouraged to read the document thoroughly, discuss it with their parents and coaches, and respond within the specified deadlines with the required artifacts.
- Canada Winter Games Funding and Time Trial Nomination. This form is to be completed by the athlete, parents/guardians, and coach. It nominates the athlete for two things; request for inclusion in the next season's time trial for qualifying for the CWGs, and to request consideration for Sask Sport resources to be made available to eligible candidates. The form submission deadline is April 15, 2010. Note that a follow-up request for nominations for time trials will be offered again by mid-year, 2010 - but these candidates will not be eligible for the Sask Sport funding offered prior to the time trials.
More information will be posted on this web site page as the full program for the Canada Winter Games evolves - including the announcements of training events, program and athlete support details, coaching selection, etc.

CWG Time Trial Results
The time trials were held at Panorama on December 27 and 28th. Each day had four runs recorded for each athlete with the best two times used to determine their ranking - the first day was slalom time trials and the second day was Giant Slalom. Additional provisional runs were allowed when circumstances would allow for the same in a race event. Ranking for each day was converted to World Cup points with the combined points for both days used to determine the final ranking.
The following table are the results from the time trial. The results in green designate the athletes selected within the five person per gender quota. The yellow results indicate CWG team alternates.

Hello all, I am still waiting to hear from a few of you in regards to the fitness testing dates. If we do not get more for the Regina test, we shall move everyone to the Saskatoon day instead, so please respond soon, with your age as well. Snow Camps I have been looking into include: Mt. Hood (end of Aug), Chile (august $4500 approx), Austria ($4000 all in, approx Oct 15-31st) and Colorado (oct 31-Nov 14th). I would also like to do some pre-season at either Nakiska, Norquay, or Panorama. I would like you all to keep track of any type of fitness training you are all doing at the moment ie; soccer, basketball, running, weights etc and I'd like to take a look at your book when I meet you all at the end of June. Take care, Talk to you all soon! Wendy Lumby Program director Sask Alpine programdirector@saskalpine.com

To all CWG contacts: I should mention that the message sent by Wendy about the potential camps was just some 'brainstorming' she was doing as she considered various options when putting the calendar together for the CWG program and the others. This is not to be taken literally at this point. I have had some questions by phone, and there was a mention of some background conversations, where people were concerned about the number of days expected to go overseas for training and to other various camps - and how it would mean a huge calendar day commitment on the athlete's part and corresponding cost impact on the parents (assuming the athletes weren't going to pay for it all themselves . I ask two things: 1. If you are concerned or have questions, ask them. Either directly to Wendy or (more useful to everyone) through this web site discussion forum so that the question is brought into the open and answered for everyone's awareness. Assuming and making uninformed conclusions won't work well for anyone. 2. Until the calendars are issued, don't presume what the program will be. Wendy has been working hard on all the program's calendars to balance all issues. She made huge headway this weekend when she got a chance to sit down with some of the program coordinators. I expect she'll be able to release a first cut very soon. Stay tuned! |

HI Terry/Wendy I am just trying to get some flights booked for Evan to visit his uncle in Portland and was wondering if the Mt. Hood camp is a go still and if the dates are finalized? Thanks! To all CWG Nominees, Parents, and Sponsoring Coaches: When the original nominee forms were issued and returned in April with the coach, parent, and athlete signatures on them, those signatures were a commitment to pursuing the available dryland training, camps, and race events prior to the time trials to prepare the athletes to be in the most optimal condition to qualify at the time trials and then, if selected, to represent Saskatchewan at the Canada Winter Games. The Mount Hood Camp is a primer for the start of next season. So far we have only a few of the 18 nominees registered to attend this camp. And out of those few registered, only two are designated at having priority access to Sask Sport resources. There's only a few more days to the July 25th deadline. It's time for all the CWG nominees, sponsoring coaches, and parents to get in gear. Let's make our province proud in our sport at the Games! The biggest thing that will hold us back isn't our raw technical skill relative to the others - it's the fitness levels and applying ourselves to the training opportunities provided to take everyone's skills to the highest level. Sask Alpine is giving everyone that opportunity - are you ready to step up to it? |

Nominations Received As Of April 21, 2010
The following are the nominees received grouped by their age category for the Canada Winter Games in the 2010/2011 season - along with the nominating coach - as of April 21, 2010. If you do not see a nominated athlete on the list that you believe had been submitted, contact a club coach nominator, and have them contact Alana at office@saskalpine.com immediately.
These highlighted nominee names below have been given priority to the Canada Winter Games funding available through Sask Alpine based on Sask Sport funding (for details on the selection criteria, see the Canada Winter Games Selection and Training document). The funding will be distributed prior to the selection time trials (expected to be in late December 2010 or early January 2011) and will depend on selected youth's involvement in appropriate training and racing programs. Note that these CWG training programs and camps will be offered to all the Canada Winter Games nominees, but the highlighted names will be designated to have priority access to the CWG Sask Sport resources (including funding).

CWG Nominee Event and Task Involvement
The following table will provide nominee event attendance and task completion information for what is offered to the Canada Winter Games team contenders.
Although it is not mandatory to attend all of these events or complete the tasks, it's expected that those athletes that take advantage of these events and perform the expected tasks will have the best chances of qualifying for the team positions at the time trials as well as compete at their highest level in the Games.
Also, for those nominees selected for priority Sask Sport funding and other resource access (highlighted in yellow), the subsequent subsidy funding will be contingent on attending the offered events and completing the assigned tasks.

2009/2010 Final ACA Points - Female
Here are the points as of April 15, 2010 for active Sask Alpine race members categorized by their age category for the 2010/2011 season (to match the CWG quota categories) and then sorted by the sum of each racer's slalom and GS points.
As defined in the funding selection document, the Sask Sport CWG funding will be based on 2009/2010 season-end National Points ranking (with additional provisions as declared in the selection document). The names (below) in bold represent athletes for which Sask Alpine has received CWG nomination forms. Over and above this, the highlighted nominee names below have been given priority to the Canada Winter Games funding available through Sask Alpine based on Sask Sport funding (for details on the selection criteria, see the Canada Winter Games Selection and Training document).

2009/2010 Final ACA Points - Male
