| GMC Canadian Championships Volunteers Needed The GMC Canadian Championships at Nakiska will be held from March 20 to 27, 2010. Training days are March 20 and 21, followed by 1 Downhill race and a Super G, Super Combined, Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Race Time is drawing near and volunteers are still needed. Between 75 and 100 volunteers are needed each day to run the exceptional race that participants have come to expect. There is lots of support from the professionals at Alpine Canada who have just returned from working at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This is a great place to see the experts in action and it is also where some of the country’s most dedicated, knowledgeable and friendly volunteers can be found.
If you would like to be part of this crew, we would love to have you. The ideal commitment is Friday March 19 in time for the safety meeting (TBC) to Saturday, March 27 following tear down of the course. We may also need a few people to come in a day or 2 in advance in order to assist with timing, course work, slipping and various other tasks. If you can’t commit to the full week, consider offering a few days or even just a day. We need to know you are coming so we can plan. Please register through the link below.
We provide accommodation at the Delta Kananaskis, breakfast, lunch and dinner, for those that require accommodations. There will be a volunteer/athlete reception on Thursday, March 24 and best of all, you will have the chance to see North America’s, best up and coming skiers along with this years Olympians, as you will be close enough to hear the whoosh as they speed by.
If you have any questions, my contacts are below, as well as the link to the online volunteer sign up form through the 'read more' link at the bottom. Please feel free to forward this call for volunteers to anyone who you think might be interested.

| 2011 Canada Winter Games Training and Selection Document Posted We're barely through the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and - of course - our 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games, and it's time to start preparing for the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The Games will be held in Halifax (Wentworth is the venue for alpine ski) scheduled for February 11 - 27. The alpine and para-alpine ski events will be held in the second week.
Alpine Saskatchewan's High Performance Committee has compiled the training and selection criteria document for our athletes to qualify for the provincial alpine ski team and participate in these games. This document, as well as other key documents, can be found on the Programs > Canada Winter Games page on this web site. This page can be accessed directly through the 'read more' link below. These awards will be presented at the Alpine Saskatchewan Nancy Greene final race/festival in Wapiti on March 21st. Deadline for submitting is March 13th. The process for nominating each is detailed in two separate documents located in the Resource Library page of this web site, but for direct access use the following links.

I need a member from the Nancy Greene program in each club to volunteer to be on this committee - and the names are to be forwarded to Karin Diehl-Ferris (Sask Alpine Director of the Nancy Greene Program) at k_diehl_ferris@hotmail.com. Volunteer requests are to be received by March 13th as well. The responsibility of this committee will be to determine the exact voting process, review the nominations received, and select one person to receive each award based on the information provided.

| Race Notice Posted for March 20-21 Nancy Greene Race/Festival at Wapiti The race notice and registration sheet are now available for the March 20th Nancy Greene race and March 21st Husky Snow Stars Festival to be held at Wapiti, SK. Registration deadline is March 12th to allow proper organization for all the expected kids.
This is a great event for the kids! The Saturday race is an opportunity for kids to safely race 'like the big kids' in a slalom race course and get their times (broken down by age groups). The Sunday Festival is a lower key event to let the kids have a good time at different activities and race in a dual slalom course - which are used to determine the Nancy Greene club that will receive the annual award for their results.
If you have been to this event in the past you know that the kids are parents all have a great time - the typical comment afterwards is "why don't we do this more often?"
Navigate through the 'read more' link below to the Nancy Greene/Snow Stars program page to read more details as well as to find the calendar event with links to the two relevant documents. (Published: Thursday, March 04, 2010) read more ... |

| Para-Alpine Program Addition to Alpine Saskatchewan Based on discussions through the summer, the organizations of Alpine Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Skiing for Disabled, and Regina Ski Club Adaptive Ski Program will be expanding the para-alpine initiatives in Saskatchewan. This will include supporting the introduction of para-alpine athletes into Sask Alpine's Sask Cup races, and to support programs to establish a para-alpine team to represent Saskatchewan at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. Para-alpine club-level instruction and training programs will also be addressed.
To help provide a communication centre for this para-alpine initiative, a page has been created on the Sask Alpine web site where more information about the sport and programs can be found. This page will be revised as the program evolves and matures and will become a community hotspot for anyone interested in this sport in Saskatchewan. The 'Para-Alpine' page is under the 'Programs' menu at the top of every page on the Sask Alpine web site (www.saskalpine.com). Click on the 'read more' link below to be taken directly to that page.
In addition, a discussion forum has been placed on the same web site page. This forum is like a 'bulletin board' and will be used to publish and broadcast (via email) future information updates on this initiative. It can also be used to have people post and respond to questions. (Published: Friday, October 09, 2009) read more ... |
