I have been asked what events/races in the 2008-09 year will be the qualifiers for the Sask Winter Games in 2010. Has there been ny decisions or discussion on this?

This will be added to the next Sask Alpine executive meeting agenda. In the meantime I'll establish a contact with the Winter Game committee to start discussing our options for qualifying and zone reps.

I have contacted Brent Waldo - who is the alpine ski rep on the committee for the games. He will be checking into the criteria for the number of reps allowed per zone (and adding to that number if other zones come up short) and the age criteria. He committed to providing an answer by Sept 5, 2008. I should note that this was a point of contention at the last winter games as there were opinions raised that the zone fulfillment was so unbalanced that there was a desire to backfill from other zones to gather a full complement of racers (and related, experienced parents) for this event. At that time it was attempted to correct this at the last qualifying race, but the response was that it was too late to change the criteria at that stage and if this was to be done it should have been done years earlier in the process. Engaging Brent to discuss this with the committee is an attempt to correct this at the proper time.

In the meantime, Sask Alpine will be responsible for establishing the qualifying criteria - both designated races and selection method, restrictions of applicants, and the calculation to derive the selections. This point will be put on the Sask Alpine executive agenda to be addressed before the next season begins.

As a side note, Brent has asked the Regina Alpine Race Team club to be the point club on this event at the games. What that means in terms of race organizing committee roles and all the other roles associated with the games, I don't know. This will need to be sorted out this season as well.
