Alpine Saskatchewan AGM: May 16 in Saskatoon - Agenda

To all Sask Alpine club prime contacts. Please read through the complete message below for important points to be aware of.

Objective: Review past season and current state of Sask Alpine's programs and finances. Elect people into executive positions for next season.

Date/time: Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Location: Sports Hall of Fame Building, 610 Cynthia Street, Saskatoon.

Each club within Sask Alpine is expected to provide a representative to attend for information purposes, provide input, and to carry out the required voting - defined by the Alpine Saskatchewan bylaws and constitution - of the nominations to the executive and director positions.

Registration: Alana Ottenbreit at office@saskalpine.com by May 12. Lunch will be provided based on the registrations received by the deadline.

Agenda will be:

1. Approval of agenda.

2. Review last year's AGM minutes. The minutes from last year's AGM on May 24th can be retrieved from the Sask Alpine web site at:
http://www.saskalpine.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=P164qhsrCDk%3d

3. Update report from each of the Sask Alpine executive and director areas:
- President: State of Organization from Past Season.
- Program Director: Review of past season's programs (Nancy Greene, K1, K2, J1/J2/FIS), plans for upcoming season.
- Finance: Current finance state.
- Competition Director: Review of past season (Sask Cup races, points, awards), plans for upcoming season.
- Communications: Review of past season, plans for upcoming season.
- Officials: Review of past season, plans for upcoming season.

4. Nominations for the Sask Alpine executive positions.

Please forward names of people interested in having their names stand for nomination for any of the Sask Alpine executive and director positions. Note that there are several vacant Sask Alpine executive and director positions; Finance, Communications, Program Director. We are specifically requesting nominations to fill these roles. Contact Terry Hooper at president@saskalpine.com with the names of interested people - or if there are questions.

On a personal note: For many months now requests have been issued to have volunteers step into the vacant executive roles of treasurer, communications and program director, but no one has come forward. In the meantime, I've had the added burden of finding ways to cover these vacant roles. The total time I have been allocating to cover everything to has become unsustainable for a variety of reasons.

What it comes down to is this - unless there are people that step up to cover these three positions in Sask Alpine (i.e. director of finance, communications, and program director), I will step down as President. In any case, I hae fulfilled the expected two year term in this position, and someone needs to take over the President's position after next year - so this would be an ideal time for anyone considering doing this to prepare themselves by getting involved on the executive this year in preparation for that role.

5. Other Business. Send additional agenda requests to Terry Hooper at president@saskalpine.com.

Terry Hooper
President
Alpine Saskatchewan

Cell: 306-529-6846
Office Manager: 306-780-9236
Office Fax: 306-780-9462=

Shipping b-Net from Whistler

This email is being sent to all club prime contacts and club coach prime contacts. Discuss with members that you believe can provide assistance.

As part of the Vancouver Olympics legacy, there are leftover rolls of b-net that have been allocated for distribution to the Alpine Canada Provincial Service Organizations (PSOs) including Alpine Saskatchewan. In our province's case, we are allocated about 35 rolls of 20 meter b-net.

This week there were further details provided on obtaining the allocated b-net. The net is provided FOB at Whistler - it is the responsibility of each PSO to arrange the shipping. The b-net is to be picked up at Timing Flats at Whistler between April 1 and 15.

Since Manitoba and Alberta also have b-net allocated, and have the same issues to deal with for transport, we have agreed to try and work together to resolve the shipping issue. All three provinces will collect their b-net allocation at Whistler and have it shipped to Calgary - where the Alberta batch will be dropped off and the Manitoba and Saskatchewan portions will continue. Alberta will have 200 rolls and Manitoba 35 rolls (with Saskatchewan having 35 rolls as well). Manitoba's rolls would end up at Asessippi.

These rolls are larger than the Barry b-net we currently use. Their weight is approximately 40 pounds per roll, just over eight feet in length, and 100 rolls is expected to need a 16 foot cube van. So with 270 rolls you can see there's a large transport need to Calgary, and then the 70 rolls after that to Regina/Asessippi.

Do any of our members have a contact that would provide reasonable options and rates for shipping the above? For comparison, we have an online quote of $700 rental of a truck from Whistler to Calgary.

Email me direct at terry.hooper@think.sk.ca on any suggestions.

Thanks.=

Sask Alpine Level 2 Officials Course: March 7th

To all club prime contacts and coaches. Distribute within your ranks.

Alpine Saskatchewan will be providing an Alpine Canada Officials Level 2 course on Sunday, March 7th in Regina and Saskatoon. Both coaches and volunteers would benefit from attendance at this course.

This course is relevant for coaches seeking an Officials Level 2 course to be compliant for filling the referee role at races (along with a CSCF Development Level certification). We are thin on referees in the province, and you are encouraged to pursue this.
Sask Alpine: Duck Mountain January 30/31 Nancy Greene Race/Festival
Cancelled

To all Sask Alpine club prime contacts and coaches.

The Race Organizing Committee for the January 30/31 Nancy Greene Race/Festival at Duck Mountain has given notice that they will be cancelling the event due to lack of snow at their ski area. The Duck Mountain ski area does not have have snow-making capabilities and is dependent on natural snowfall. At this point they have had about an inch of snow cover and the forecast is pessimistic for it to fill in by the event date. They regret any inconvenience this causes people that had been planning to attend, and are disappointed they cannot carry through with this event.

As a substitute, it's suggested that the Nancy Greene groups consider organizing a 'scrimmage' event similar to last season where clubs in regional areas created an ad-hoc day for giving the youth exposure to a Nancy Greene race format. This would be in preparation for attending the March 20/21 Nancy Greene Race and Festival in Wapiti. Last year's event in Wapiti in March was a great time for all - and it's expected to be an event to look forward to again this season!=

Sask Alpine b-Net Status: Deadline for 2009 Taxation Year Donation:
Dec 31

This message is being sent to all Sask Alpine prime club contacts. Please distribute to your members.

We are in the final strokes of building our funds for the b-net safety fencing initiative for our two Saskatchewan ski area training/race courses - Table Mountain and Mission Ridge. There has been a wave of donations received over the last two weeks to take us within grasp of our fundraising goal. As the donation amounts are received, the fundraising thermometer has been updated - check it out on the Sask Alpine web site home page at www.saskalpine.com.

A quick reminder about the charitable donation: To be included as a 2009 charitable donation for taxation purposes, payment must be received at the Sask Alpine office by December 30, 2009 at the latest. If it is received after that, it is still eligible as a charitable donation, but will be applied for the 2010 taxation year. You can find the donation form under the fundraising thermometer on the Sask Alpine web site.

Thanks to all for their efforts in promoting this worthwhile safety cause, and all of the corporate and personal contributions made to date!

Terry Hooper
President
Alpine Saskatchewan=
