| Sask Alpine Multi-Club Mountain Ski Training Camp Dear Club Reps. and Coaches:
Re: Sask Alpine multi-club mountain ski training camp.
In response to Club demand at the Sask Alpine spring meeting, we are coordinating a multi-club ski camp as requested.
It will give the Sask Alpine Coaches an opportunity to meet all of the athletes and with their Club Coaches access their skill development.
These are points made by the Clubs present at this meeting supporting the camp concept:
- Fitness, nutrition, video ski tuning and other training sessions can be held for athletes daily.
- If there is a desire by the Club Coaches, the athletes can be trained by age group rather than by Club.
- This matches athletes by age / skill level and the speed they ski at and has worked well previously at PAAST, TMST and BST multi-club camps.
- We are encouraging athletes from 9 years old and up to attend.
- It will give the Club and Sask Alpine Coaches a chance to meet daily to brain storm and get on the same page in terms of program and athlete development for the 2008 / 2009 season.
The dates agreed upon at the spring meeting for this camp were:
- November 25, Tuesday – Travel day
- November 26, 27, 28 & 29 – Ski days
- November 30 Sunday – Travel day.
I have booked 30 units at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore, for this camp. Please see this attached RMSL contract that must be filled out and sent directly back to them confirming the number and type of units your require for your club.
The ski area will be selected because of snow conditions, closer to the date of the camp.
If you miss the confirmation deadline, the rooms will be given up.
I look forward to seeing everyone at this camp. Hey, I forgot to mention above the most important reason for attending this camp > the fun factor.

 | 2009 Sask Cup Kickoff GS Race Location is Finalized! Book your accommodations NOW!After many months of searching, contacting a half-dozen resorts and hills, negotiating dates/details, and deliberating on the pros and cons of the options, the Alpine Saskatchewan board has reached a decision on the location and dates for the Alpine Saskatchewan 2009 Sask Cup Kickoff GS race.
We are pleased to announce that arrangements have been made to hold the 2009 race at Marmot Basin at Jasper, Alberta. This race will be in its fourteenth consecutive year with the past thirteen years being held at Panorama, BC. It will be open to all categories of ages (E2 through J2) from 9 through 19 - and older.
Although this will be a little bit further drive compared to Panorama for some of the clubs, this race location provides dependable snow conditions, relatively close accommodations, family skiing envrionment, good race support, and allowed Sask Alpine to hold the race on the traditional Friday/Saturday at the end of the school Christmas break.
GS training will be offered on December 31 and January 1st, and GS racing on January 2nd and 3rd. This will allow the option of staying over the Saturday night and using Sunday as a travel day.
Race information has been posted under our Sask Cup section. Click on the Read More link below to navigate to that race information. (Published: Monday, June 23, 2008) read more ... |
 | Education Institution Support Letters For Sask Alpine AthletesAll athletes joining our programs may be involved in events and activities at the club or provincial level that will mean time away from school, and will require cooperation with the school system to ensure their educational institutions are aware of what they are doing, can support their schedules, and maintain the athlete's academic goals.
To help address this, Sask Alpine has created a form letter that officially states Alpine Saskatchewan's benefits for the student, our perspective on academic priorities, the specific roles and responsibilities involved, and is signed by the Sask Alpine President. This letter can then be taken to the institution to help the parents and student open a dialog with the institution staff to work out the logistics of the program and academic goals and balance.
Contact your club or program coordinator to obtain this document. (Published: Sunday, June 22, 2008) |
| FIS Council Decisions - Important Equipment Rule ChangesHere are some important final decisions of the FIS Council from a recent Congress in Cape Town. The equipment rule changes are quite important and should be widely communicated.
The reason this is important, is ski orders would be in process to finalization and we do not want the FIS athletes making unnecessary ski purchases. The specific section on equipment (there is actually more than just skis) is on the last two pages of the pdf (reference the More Details link below). | Congratulations to Lawrence Blouin on Receiving the Jim Marshall Award on May 1, 2008On behalf of Alpine Saskatchewan I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Lawrence Blouin on the honour of receiving the Jim Marshall Award on May 1, 2008 at the CWSAA 40th Anniversary Spring Conference and Trade Show.
I had the opportunity to review the history for this award and the standards for the recipient selection. I then read through the presentation notes detailing Lawrence's personal background and the contributions he has made to the alpine ski industry. Selecting Lawrence for this award was certainly worthy.
Within the province, our Alpine Saskatchewan Table Mountain members speak highly of their partnership with the hill. During the many Alpine Saskatchewan races I have been part of at Table Mountain I have seen first-hand the excellent facilities, operations, and staff combining to make the Table Mountain organization one of the best in the prairies. I have also heard accounts of Lawrence's personal skill and ingenuity in creating custom and unique hill equipment – for which his knowledge has been sought far and wide.
We are proud of this Saskatchewan facility, and proud Lawrence's personal contributions have been recognized.

 | Introducing the New Alpine Saskatchewan LogoThe Sask Alpine executive and board have decided it was time to revamp and settle on a new logo for Alpine Saskatchewan. Up to this point there was more than one logo in use for the organization and neither was viewed as a logo that the was deemed current or appropriate for the long term (the old logo images are shown on the left with the red X crossing through it).
The new logo is based on the Alpine Canada logo (both logos are shown on left for reference) with the similar central graphic of the Canadian flag maple leaf stylized to embed the pair of alpine skis, as well as the Alpine Ski designation below the leaf. The Sask Alpine logo is then customized with the Saskatchewan province name highlighted at the top of the logo to designate our organization's province name and the colour scheme changed from a red maple leaf with a white background to a green maple leaf with a yellow background. The custom colours are taken from Saskatchewan's provincial flag colours - which for interest's sake are correspondingly based on the green forests of Saskatchewan's North along with the yellow grass plains of the South.
Use of the logo is governed by the Alpine Saskatchewan organization. If any clubs, sponsors or other individuals or organizations would like to use the logo, they should direct their request to the Alpine Saskatchewan general office contact. (Published: Sunday, May 25, 2008) |
